1 Corinthians 11:17 - 14:40 1Cor 11:17 (NKJV) Now in giving these instructions I do not praise [you], since you come together not for the better but for the worse. 1Cor 11:17 (KJV) Now in this that I declare [unto you] I praise [you] not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse. 1Cor 11:17 (RSV) But in the following instructions I do not commend you, because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse. 1Cor 11:17 (NASB) But in giving this instruction, I do not praise you, because you come together not for the better but for the worse. 1Cor 11:17 (NIV) In the following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good.
18 (NKJV) For first of all, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. 18 (KJV) For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it. {divisions: or, schisms} 18 (RSV) For, in the first place, when you assemble as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you; and I partly believe it, 18 (NASB) For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that divisions exist among you; and in part, I believe it. 18 (NIV) In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it.
19 (NKJV) For there must also be factions among you, that those who are approved may be recognized among you. 19 (KJV) For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. {heresies: or, sects} 19 (RSV) for there must be factions among you in order that those who are genuine among you may be recognized. 19 (NASB) For there must also be factions among you, in order that those who are approved may have become evident among you. 19 (NIV) No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you have God's approval.
20 (NKJV) Therefore when you come together in one place, it is not to eat the Lord's Supper. 20 (KJV) When ye come together therefore into one place, [this] is not to eat the Lord's supper. {this...: or, ye cannot eat} 20 (RSV) When you meet together, it is not the Lord's supper that you eat. 20 (NASB) Therefore when you meet together, it is not to eat the Lord's Supper, 20 (NIV) When you come together, it is not the Lord's Supper you eat,
21 (NKJV) For in eating, each one takes his own supper ahead of [others]; and one is hungry and another is drunk. 21 (KJV) For in eating every one taketh before [other] his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken. 21 (RSV) For in eating, each one goes ahead with his own meal, and one is hungry and another is drunk. 21 (NASB) for in your eating each one takes his own supper first; and one is hungry and another is drunk. 21 (NIV) for as you eat, each of you goes ahead without waiting for anybody else. One remains hungry, another gets drunk.
22 (NKJV) What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I do not praise [you]. 22 (KJV) What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise [you] not. {have not: or, are poor?} 22 (RSV) What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I commend you in this? No, I will not. 22 (NASB) What! Do you not have houses in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God, and shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you? In this I will not praise you. 22 (NIV) Don't you have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? Certainly not!
23 (NKJV) For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the [same] night in which He was betrayed took bread; 23 (KJV) For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the [same] night in which he was betrayed took bread: 23 (RSV) For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 23 (NASB) For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; 23 (NIV) For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,

27 (NKJV) Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks [this] cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 27 (KJV) Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink [this] cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 27 (RSV) Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. 27 (NASB) Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. 27 (NIV) Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.

30 (NKJV) For this reason many [are] weak and sick among you, and many sleep. 30 (KJV) For this cause many [are] weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. 30 (RSV) That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died. 30 (NASB) For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep. 30 (NIV) That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.
31 (NKJV) For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. 31 (KJV) For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. 31 (RSV) But if we judged ourselves truly, we should not be judged. 31 (NASB) But if we judged ourselves rightly, we should not be judged. 31 (NIV) But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment.
32 (NKJV) But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world. 32 (KJV) But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. 32 (RSV) But when we are judged by the Lord, we are chastened so that we may not be condemned along with the world. 32 (NASB) But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord in order that we may not be condemned along with the world. 32 (NIV) When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.
33 (NKJV) Therefore, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. 33 (KJV) Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another. 33 (RSV) So then, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another -- 33 (NASB) So then, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. 33 (NIV) So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for each other.
34 (NKJV) But if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest you come together for judgment. And the rest I will set in order when I come. 34 (KJV) And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. About the other things I will give directions when I come. 34 (NASB) If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that you may not come together for judgment. And when I come I will give further directions.
12:1 (NKJV) Now concerning spiritual [gifts], brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: 12:1 (KJV) Now concerning spiritual [gifts], brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 12:1 (RSV) Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be uninformed. 12:1 (NASB) Now concerning spiritual [gifts,] brethren, I do not want you to be unaware. 12:1 (NIV) Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant.
2 (NKJV) You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. 2 (KJV) Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. 2 (RSV) You know that when you were heathen, you were led astray to dumb idols, however you may have been moved. 2 (NASB) You know that when you were pagans, [you were] led astray to the dumb idols, however you were led. 2 (NIV) You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
3 (NKJV) Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. 3 (KJV) Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and [that] no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. {accursed: or, anathema} 3 (RSV) Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says "Jesus be cursed!" and no one can say "Jesus is Lord" except by the Holy Spirit. 3 (NASB) Therefore I make known to you, that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is accursed"; and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. 3 (NIV) Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.
4 (NKJV) There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 4 (KJV) Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 4 (RSV) Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 4 (NASB) Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 4 (NIV) There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 (NKJV) There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 5 (KJV) And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. {administrations: or, ministries} 5 (RSV) and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 5 (NASB) And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. 5 (NIV) There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
6 (NKJV) And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 6 (KJV) And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 6 (RSV) and there are varieties of working, but it is the same God who inspires them all in every one. 6 (NASB) And there are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all [persons.] 6 (NIV) There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.
7 (NKJV) But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit [of] [all]: 7 (KJV) But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 7 (RSV) To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 7 (NASB) But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 7 (NIV) Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

18 (NKJV) But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. 18 (KJV) But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. 18 (RSV) But as it is, God arranged the organs in the body, each one of them, as he chose. 18 (NASB) But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired. 18 (NIV) But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.

23 (NKJV) And those [members] of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable [parts] have greater modesty, 23 (KJV) And those [members] of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely [parts] have more abundant comeliness. {bestow: or, put on} 23 (RSV) and those parts of the body which we think less honorable we invest with the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, 23 (NASB) and those [members] of the body, which we deem less honorable, on these we bestow more abundant honor, and our unseemly [members come to] have more abundant seemliness, 23 (NIV) and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty,
24 (NKJV) but our presentable [parts] have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that [part] which lacks it, 24 (KJV) For our comely [parts] have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that [part] which lacked: 24 (RSV) which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving the greater honor to the inferior part, 24 (NASB) whereas our seemly [members] have no need [of it.] But God has [so] composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that [member] which lacked, 24 (NIV) while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it,

30 (NKJV) Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 (NKJV) does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 5 (KJV) Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 5 (RSV) it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 5 (NASB) does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong [suffered,] 5 (NIV) It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 (NKJV) does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 6 (KJV) Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; {in the truth: or, with the truth} 6 (RSV) it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. 6 (NASB) does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 6 (NIV) Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 (NKJV) bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 7 (KJV) Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 7 (RSV) Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 7 (NASB) bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 7 (NIV) It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

7 (NKJV) Even things without life, whether flute or harp, when they make a sound, unless they make a distinction in the sounds, how will it be known what is piped or played? 7 (KJV) And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? {sounds: or, tunes} 7 (RSV) If even lifeless instruments, such as the flute or the harp, do not give distinct notes, how will any one know what is played? 7 (NASB) Yet [even] lifeless things, either flute or harp, in producing a sound, if they do not produce a distinction in the tones, how will it be known what is played on the flute or on the harp? 7 (NIV) Even in the case of lifeless things that make sounds, such as the flute or harp, how will anyone know what tune is being played unless there is a distinction in the notes?
8 (NKJV) For if the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare himself for battle? 8 (KJV) For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle? 8 (RSV) And if the bugle gives an indistinct sound, who will get ready for battle? 8 (NASB) For if the bugle produces an indistinct sound, who will prepare himself for battle? 8 (NIV) Again, if the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle?
9 (NKJV) So likewise you, unless you utter by the tongue words easy to understand, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air. 9 (KJV) So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air. {easy...: Gr. significant} 9 (RSV) So with yourselves; if you in a tongue utter speech that is not intelligible, how will any one know what is said? For you will be speaking into the air. 9 (NASB) So also you, unless you utter by the tongue speech that is clear, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air. 9 (NIV) So it is with you. Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air.
10 (NKJV) There are, it may be, so many kinds of languages in the world, and none of them [is] without significance. 10 (KJV) There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them [is] without signification. 10 (RSV) There are doubtless many different languages in the world, and none is without meaning; 10 (NASB) There are, perhaps, a great many kinds of languages in the world, and no [kind] is without meaning. 10 (NIV) Undoubtedly there are all sorts of languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning.
11 (NKJV) Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the language, I shall be a foreigner to him who speaks, and he who speaks [will] [be] a foreigner to me. 11 (KJV) Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh [shall be] a barbarian unto me. 11 (RSV) but if I do not know the meaning of the language, I shall be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me. 11 (NASB) If then I do not know the meaning of the language, I shall be to the one who speaks a barbarian, and the one who speaks will be a barbarian to me. 11 (NIV) If then I do not grasp the meaning of what someone is saying, I am a foreigner to the speaker, and he is a foreigner to me.
12 (NKJV) Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual [gifts], [let] [it] [be] for the edification of the church [that] you seek to excel. 12 (KJV) Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual [gifts], seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church. {of spiritual gifts: Gr. of spirits} 12 (RSV) So with yourselves; since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church. 12 (NASB) So also you, since you are zealous of spiritual [gifts,] seek to abound for the edification of the church. 12 (NIV) So it is with you. Since you are eager to have spiritual gifts, try to excel in gifts that build up the church.
13 (NKJV) Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. 13 (KJV) Wherefore let him that speaketh in an [unknown] tongue pray that he may interpret. 13 (RSV) Therefore, he who speaks in a tongue should pray for the power to interpret. 13 (NASB) Therefore let one who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. 13 (NIV) For this reason anyone who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret what he says.

In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults.
21 (NKJV) In the law it is written: "With [men] [of] other tongues and other lips I will speak to this people; And yet, for all that, they will not hear Me," says the Lord. 21 (KJV) In the law it is written, With [men of] other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. 21 (RSV) In the law it is written, "By men of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord." 21 (NASB) In the Law it is written, "By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people, and even so they will not listen to Me," says the Lord. 21 (NIV) In the Law it is written: "Through men of strange tongues and through the lips of foreigners I will speak to this people, but even then they will not listen to me," {[21] Isaiah 28:11,12} says the Lord.
